Since I could only take two days off while my brother and his family are here we wanted to pack A LOT into those days. We decided to go somewhere none of us have been. Well, except for Nathan. Apparently he went last year with his summer program. When we got there he confirmed he had indeed been there before.
We chose The Polar Caves. It would be a nice outside thing to do and the kids could get some exercise.
They had some animals, deer, ducks and pheasants before you get to the caves. We stopped and looked at all the different ducks. They were digging with their bills through the leaves. We're not sure why, but the owner said he had some ducks born on land and they preferred to stay on land. Interesting.
Nicholas was anxious to get through the caves and wanted to be the leader. Chris was the adult leader and Nicholas was the kids leader. He would stop anyone who tried to go ahead of him and remind them that HE was the kids leader.
It didn't take long to walk through the caves, about an hour. Some of them were a very tight squeeze (this one is called "Fat Man's Misery"),
and others you had to watch your head. One had ice in it leftover from the winter.
It was interesting how cool the caves were and how immediately after you stepped out you could feel the warmth and humidity. The kids did great and didn't slip and fall or hurt themselves. They were like old pros.

Erika had Orion in a backpack at first, but there was a sign said they wouldn't work well. Fortunately it was one she could put on her front also. It wasn't easy carrying him on her front and bending over though, but she did it like a trooper.
We ate lunch outside the park and the kids found this stream to play in.
Then we went back in and walked around some more. This is one of the funniest moments of the day. I was taking a picture of The CA Grays with Orion looking up at me from Brian's shoulders and took this shot:
It was too far away so I zoomed in. I swear it wasn't more than 20 seconds later that I took this shot:
Yup, he's sound asleep on Brian's shoulders! Ah, to be a kid again.

That looks like you all had a fun time! Wish my parents had been that cool, we didn't go many places during the summer. The boys are very lucky :)
SOO fun...It is soooo beautiful there! Man...what would that be like??? hehe! I am so glad you had such a good time with your brother and his family! There is NOTHING better than having your family in town, and hangin out! Love it!
