Children's Museum

We took most of this week off (June 30 - July 3) for vacation and it rained just about every day of it so far. We decided to go to The Children’s Museum in Dover because I had been there with Nathan’s Kindergarten class last year before they moved from Portsmouth and I knew the kids would love it. Unfortunately we weren’t the only ones with that idea. It seemed like the entire state of NH was there! Nicholas said his favorite part was the train set. He played on that several times for a long time. We were trying to figure out why he doesn’t play with the set we have at home and wondered if it’s because he liked being around other children while he played. He didn’t get angry with any of the children around him except for once when a child kept bumping into his train. He just played in his own fantasy land making up his story as he went along. Nicholas also said he enjoyed building things with the straws. Nathan built a house first and then Nicholas came in the room and added a lava thrower that protects the house from any bad guys. Then he added on more to the house. Nathan said his favorite part was playing mailman. He delivered mail to the different mailboxes around the museum for a long time. He knew what piece of mail went to which mailbox by looking at the stamp on it. His second favorite thing was the Build It and Fly It exhibit. Using foam pieces you build your own flying machine and then put it in the tray and wind it up to the top and see if it flies on the way down. He also built a castle with some Lego-type pieces and played with Chris in the magnet exhibit. Nicholas went in the submarine several times also. He played with the sonar and wound up the propeller. They each tried on masks too, which was a good laugh. It was a really fun time and it was nice that the kids got to play and try new things.
