Turtle Rescue

June 16, 2012

While we were working on weeding the garden, Nathan and Nicholas discovered a turtle in the pool and tried to catch it.

Later when Chris came over and grabbed the skimmer to help get the turtle out of the pool Nicholas said "Dad, Dad, Dad, we have a plan" basically saying they didn't need his help. In the end it was Nathan who scooped the turtle up in the bucket. Chris picked him up and Nicholas was jumpy when touching him. Chris told them not to put their fingers anywhere near the mouth because we weren't sure if it was a snapping turtle, but it turns out it was a painted turtle.

Nathan picked it up and jumped because the feet scratched him a little. I think he thought he was being bitten.

We named him Turtle and called him Turd for short. We let him go in a wet swampy area on our drive over to Beech Hill Farm. He was very excited to be in his new home and swam away fast! Now when we drive by the spot where we dropped him off the boys will say "I wonder how Turdy is doing?" or "I wonder if Turdy likes his new home?"
