Last Baseball Game

June 18, 2011

Tonight was our first single elimination baseball championship game. Unfortunately it was our last too. We got clobbered, but the boys had fun playing. They even stuck around after the game to practice hitting. Mom and Dave came to the game. Dave commented on how much he enjoyed seeing the catcher and pitcher at the mound having a conference.
I love this shot because you can actually see the dust coming off the catchers glove!

Nathan got a lot better during the season. He was doing great at third base. He knew to cover the base if the runner was stealing. He was also getting really good at fielding ground balls and we were working on knowing where the throw the ball before the batter hit. I could tell he was trying to be more aware of this at the game.

He was given one try at pitching. He didn't do that great, but we hadn't practiced with him either. He was so excited and wanted to practice after that. He kept saying "I wonder if they are going to want me to pitch again at the game?" Fortunately he didn't get upset about not doing that great at it. During the season he got much better at hitting also.

He was swinging the bat and even if he struck out we didn't care as long as he was swinging. Several times he decided to swing a little too late, but many more he hit the ball and got on base. We are so proud of how much he improved this season.

Grampy and I loved watching Nathan play ball. This is Grampy's favorite sport. When he was growing up he was the pitcher.
Nathan and his team-mates all played and enjoyed the game. We can hardly wait for next year! Go Nathan!
